ESL7/Transition-to-College students win the SDCE Scholarships again!
Yes, we did it again! Hy Buu Truong won the AFT Guild, Local 1931, Maxine Williams Scholarship. Melee Lee won the ASB Award. We were also notified that our 2013 winner of the Los Dos Chefs Scholarship, Maher Alhaja, just graduated valedictorian in his class at Mesa College and was accepted at UCSD. Congratulations to all of them! You can read Hy's essay and Melee's essay here. The only regret we had was the scant word limit for essay submissions since our students had so much more to say!

A book writer visits the Transition to College class
On December 16, 2014, the ESL7/Transition to College class had a very special guest speaker. Daniel Rubin is the writer of Same Same but Different, a beautifully illustrated children’s picture book series in a graphic novel style which introduces young readers to different landmarks, cultures, and languages around the world. Daniel, who is married to one of our students, Kanako, talked about why he had given up his career as a lawyer to become a children's book writer, how he comes up with ideas for his books, and what it takes to publish a book in America today. Follow Same Same but Different on Facebook to learn more about the available and upcoming books.
